Significant numbers show up for Fish Farm Protest
At noon today, a group of protestors estimated at 55-60 gathered at Fort Point Lighthouse in Liverpool to protest open-cage fish farming in Liverpool Bay. Fortunately, the sun was shining, taking some of the bite out of the cooler winds.
Specifically, the protest was directed at Cooke Aquqculture's application to expand their current ocean and pen-based fish farm in Liverpool Bay.
A quartet of local musicians performed a song about fish farms that was specially written for the gathering and everyone did their best to join in with the chorus. Protest signs were everywhere and an invitation to an 'open mic' brought various speakers forward, including Annabelle Singleton who urged the protestors to write letters to all levels of government, expressing their concerns with the application.
